It's important to me to make wildfire stories about humanity and loss. It can be very easy to get bogged down in raw numbers about acres burned instead of making the story about people. This clip showcases my real-time writing as the blazes were unfolding. The banners are comprehensive and use strong, impactful language to complement the striking visuals. Working in the control room, I created new banners and name fonts on the fly, prepared live video clocks and copy edited the latest video as it came in.

I copy edited this intro to give it more style and energy. I also gave Maria Ressa a stronger intro to set up that she's far more than just a Philippine journalist. It's remarkable we were able to interview a Nobel Peace Prize winner, and this needed to reflect that.

Senator Padilla's confrontation with DHS security was a late-breaking development shortly before we were set to go to air. As a copy editor, I rewrote large parts of our scripts to make this story the top item on our coverage of the protests in Los Angeles. I also brought in new banners and video to provide more context.

I had very little to do with the scripts or questions in this segment. But I led a major overhaul of the onscreen text and banners. The originals didn't do enough to explain why Kevin O'Leary was the right guest to have on to discuss TikTok. My new banners showcased his interest in the site and the news of the day from the Supreme Court.

This one's a guilty pleasure for me because I grew up rooting for the White Sox. This piece brings some really fun energy right off the top that I attribute to my rewrite as a copy editor. It changes the tone significantly. "The White Sox are honoring Pope Leo with a mural" is accurate. But bringing in the team's otherwise weak season and talking about how badly they need a win delivers background and context with a sense of style.

The original version of this piece was turned in without a lot of personality and only featured images of Washington, DC office exteriors that weren't very engaging. As a copy editor, I punched up the script to set the stakes of what's being lost at VOA. I added historical background, and I tracked down and edited historical images of VOA broadcasts and promotional materials for a little more variety in the visuals. The new piece came together really well and I received highly positive feedback.

I helped punch up this lead, wrote new banners and added some context to the soundbyte to explain who Mark Carney is to an audience who may not be familiar with him. All of that was on top of a short explainer on Doug Ford.

I brought in new still images of the X-ray for some visual variety in this piece. It would have gotten old quickly if all we had was the showroom video on loop. I also rewrote this to be more conversational. My other big contribution? "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to describe someone swallowing diamonds at a Tiffany's.
